JLC LIVE Delivers Exuberant 15th Annual New England

Apr 20, 2010 - Dallas, TX

It was a repeat performance.  Once again residential construction professionals filled the Rhode Island Convention Center March 24-27 with enthusiasm and purpose.  Given the market conditions of the past 12 months and the inclement weather during the event, an impressive 6,312 qualified attendees traveled from across New England to do serious business at the 15th Annual New England JLC LIVE Residential Construction Show.  The enthusiasm, exuberance and professionalism of the residential builders, custom home builders, remodelers, general contractors, architects/designers, subcontractors and building materials dealers radiated onsite confirming that residential construction continues to progress in New England.

“We just returned from JLC LIVE…as an exhibitor.  Once again, the best trade show of the year for us.  [JLC LIVE] pays dividends all year long with actual sales directly resulting from discussions and demonstrations at this event,” stated in an email by Wes Robichaud, Sales Manager for Coastal Forest Products in Bedford, NH.

In 2010, 193 companies filled the exhibit hall floor and spilled into the lobby providing attendees with over 50,000 square feet of products, services and live educational demonstrations.

“From a manufacturer’s viewpoint wanting to solidly connect with the contractors and remodelers who serve as ambassadors of our brand and products with the homeowner, this event is a must attend,” stated in a company blog by Eric Nilsson, Vice President of Corporate Marketing for CertainTeed Corporation.

Face time with manufacturers, distributors and interaction with product lines whether new or current is one of the core reasons attendees take time to come to JLC LIVE.  As attendees navigated the exhibitor displays, attendees also took time to gain first-hand knowledge of construction and building techniques through live, interactive demonstrations on the exhibit hall floor, a signature feature of JLC LIVE.

“…I had attended clinic sessions with Jed Dixon, Myron Ferguson, and Gary Katz.  They are excellent presenters and life skills sharers,” stated Kirby Dolak via email, who runs Dolak Enterprises LLC in Littleton, MA.

The show featured a total of nine Building Clinics presented by top industry specialists Gary Katz, Mike Sloggatt, Tom Brewer, Mike Guertin, Rick Arnold, Jed Dixon, Bill Robinson, Myron Ferguson, Michael Byrne, Frank Caputo, Andy Engel, Kurt Filan and Kyle Dunkley.  In addition to the clinics, there were five Exhibitor Demonstrations presented by Andersen Windows and Doors, James Hardie, Therma-Tru, Grace and Marvin and Integrity Windows and Doors.  Balancing out the exhibit hall education, JLC LIVE also offered attendees a four day conference featuring in-depth, real world construction education.  Over 50 sessions were available and ranged from full day sessions to hour sessions which addressed a wide range of relevant topics.  Conference education tracks included: Business Strategies, Energy Building & Performance Strategies, Construction Materials & Techniques, Sales & Marketing and more.  The Premier Sponsor of the 2010 event was Festool and Official Suppliers were JT’s Lumber and Sashco.

With the upcoming lead legislation, 25 contractor attendees took part in an 8-hour LEAD Renovator / Remodeler EPA training class at the Rhode Island Convention Center.  Additionally, on Saturday, Bob Hanbury of House of Hanbury in Newington, CT, led a Networking Roundtable dedicated to the lead legislation, giving attendees deeper insight and understanding into this pending measure.

In 2010, a number of exciting new additions were introduced, including a Tool Check, a Student Center and Daily Cash Giveaways. With tools being the backbone of any construction business, attendees took advantage of the onsite Tool Check.  Attendees who purchased tools direct from exhibiting companies could check in their packages and pick them up at the end of the day, therefore only making one trip to their vehicles.

Also introduced this year was the Student Center sponsored by Bonsal American / Sakrete.  On Friday, March 26, over 350 students from regional technical schools and high school vocational programs packed a ballroom and listened as two construction pros in their twenties presented potential career paths in the construction industry, how they got their start, what not to do and then wrapped with a short question-and-answer session.

Daily Cash Giveaways were another new addition taking place in the exhibit hall this year.  A total of nine attendees whose names were drawn randomly walked away surprised with $100, $250 or $500 in cash.  Site Commander returned to the exhibit hall this year to excite attendees about winning the ultimate construction work truck.  Irwin Tools set up the “Irwin Tool Challenge” at one end of the hall which provided a space for contractors to challenge each other with drills and saws and then step up into an onsite store to purchase the latest Irwin Tools.

A Welcome Party proved to be a great way to wind down at the close of a busy first day with live music, an energized crowd and multiple raffle winners who walked away that evening with new tools, technical books and other prizes courtesy of Bosch, Festool, GripRite, Stiletto and Irwin Tools.  The show wrapped Saturday afternoon with a majority of exhibitors continuing to welcome prospective customers into their booths.

“If you’re not attending [JLC LIVE], then you’re not learning a lot of things your competition is.  So, I would definitely plan to attend,” explained Myron Ferguson, one of the industry specialists who works on clinic demonstrations each year.

Mark your calendars for JLC LIVE New England 2011 taking place at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence, RI.  The Conference will run March 23-26, 2011 and the Exhibits will be held March 25-26, 2011.  For more information about JLC LIVE please visit
