JLC LIVE New England and This Old House Join Together to Rebuild the Trades

Informa Exhibitions and This Old House are partnering at the JLC LIVE New England Residential Construction Show taking place March 27-30 at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence, RI to promote the importance of apprenticeships for the building and construction industry.

JLC LIVE annually attracts over 7,000 residential construction builders and contractors with live building clinics and live product demonstrations. Every year, more than 500 students accompany their vocational school instructors to the event to learn and network with industry professionals. The groups have partnered on programs designed to tap into this network of students and contractors with the hopes of closing the skills gap by encouraging young people to master the vocational trades, and for contractors to guide them through apprenticeship.

Said This Old House Ventures, LLC Executive Chairman Eric Thorkilsen, “We are proud to be partnering with Informa Exhibitions at JLC LIVE New England to shine a spotlight on the skills gap, promote the rewards of careers in residential construction, and give young people a path to apprenticeships.”

The crew from This Old House, including host Kevin O’ Connor, plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey, contractors Charlie Silva and Jeff Sweenor, and Nathan Gilbert, former This Old House Generation Next apprentice and newest member of the team, will all attend and speak at the Rebuilding the Trades programs March 29 and 30:

  • JLC LIVE Trade Student Meet-Up featuring This Old House hosts and special guests
  • JLC LIVE Welcome Party featuring This Old House hosts and special guests
  • This Old House Business Panel: Game-Changing Ideas for Growing your Business with This Old House crew members and special guests

At the close of the event, a donation will be made by JLC LIVE to mikeroweWORKS to fund Work Ethic scholarships for the next generation of aspiring skilled workers who will work smart and hard.

JLC LIVE New England will also have more than 300 product exhibitors and a conference program with more than 50 education sessions offering AIA, MA CSL and RI CRLB credit. More information and event registration can be found at
